Pet Travel In Europe...
Travelling with your pet can be easy. Whether you're set to explore Britain or have the desire to traipse through Europe or around the world, pets make wonderful companions. Follow a few simple guidelines before you leave to make sure your pet is in good health and cared for on your travels. Visit the vet, pack the canine necessities, and make arrangements to stay in pet friendly accommodations.
The Pet Travel Scheme (PETS) is the system that allows pet dogs, cats and ferrets from certain countries to enter the UK without quarantine as long as they meet the rules. It also means that people in the UK can take their dogs, cats and ferrets to other European Union (EU) countries, and return with them to the UK. They can also, having taken their dogs, cats and ferrets to certain non-EU countries, bring them back to the UK without the need for quarantine. The rules are to keep the UK free from rabies and certain other diseases.
EU Passports for Pet Travel Outside Britain were introduced In July 2004. The pet travel scheme (PETS) is a legal requirement for all cats and dogs travelling outside the UK. EU Pet Passports are available from a Local Veterinary Inspector. Under the regulations of the pet travel scheme, pets are permitted to enter or re-enter Britain from approved countries without undergoing six months' quarantine, provided that they have been: microchipped, blood tested, vaccinated and a general health check carried out.
