With daily connections to its smaller islands, your visit to Guernsey is four holidays rolled into one. Alderney means rolling, open countryside and wide sandy bays. St Anne’s, the capital, is a welcoming tumble of cottages, town houses and pubs. Ride the Channel Islands’ only standard gauge railway in the metropolitan luxury of old London Underground coaches. Somehow, in Alderney, it all makes perfect sense. Sark is famous for its feudal government and refusal to kow-tow to the motor car.
